We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Development Director to join a global market leader in the DIY arts and crafts marketplace, with the company designing, manufacturing and distributing the finest products to the creative industry. As Product Development Director, you will lead the Product Development and Engineering department whilst evolving strategy to support the business plans and objectives. You will structure your department to support the business growth plan and support the team within to build their individual skill sets and evolve their individual development.

This pivotal role which involves leading the Product Development and Engineering department whilst evolving strategy to support the business plans and objectives. You will structure your department to support the business growth plan and support the team within to build their individual skill sets and evolve their individual development.
You must be able to work alongside other key stakeholders to fully execute on any opportunities. Cross department alignment and communication are essential. Reviewing development highs and lows regularly to be able to continue the evolvement of products and product categories that are fit for purpose and commercially astute.
Develop robust global procedures with the support of your department leaders and in collaboration with other necessary stakeholders across the business. Developing and maintaining a 3-5-year plan for product innovation and range extensions. Working with stakeholders, business and market intelligence. Identifying possible problems within the department and the structure and be able to provide solutions as the business grows and develops, in keeping with the requirements from the business. This could involve realignment of positions, creation of new job roles, etc. Encouraging department management to inspire and lead their teams to the KPI's and business objectives set for them each year. Commercial management and assessment of all new and existing products to ensure they are meeting business objectives. Working alongside other leaderships on the required outputs. Ensure projects and product developments included within the 3-5-year plan are executed on time and in full. Collaborating amongst other stakeholders is essentials to create transparency and successful delivery. Organise, mentor, support, recruit and manage the team. Foster positive working relationships with multidisciplinary teams across the group. Development, implementation and management of clear departmental processes inclusive of other business touch points. Evolvement, management and implementation of the product development pipeline which is commercially viable and meets business objectives. Collaboration with stakeholders across the business to make continuous improvements to process as the department and business evolves. Development of and Ownership of the project schedule and agreed quality, cost and delivery milestones and targets with the project team (and customers or suppliers as relevant). Report on department performance against goals. Working with manufacturing stakeholders to ensure best practice for product evolvement and delivery.
Highly organised and detail oriented with excellent planning skills Executive Leadership qualification or equivalent experience at Executive Level Experience of managing teams through change Degree level education or equivalent experience Self-motivated, energetic, determined and dynamic Results oriented, with the ability to work effectively under pressure Relevant experience to include project management and product development (working alongside project manager/designers) Proven experience of leading NPD projects from concept through to production and launch. Demonstrable experience in applying project management techniques to achieve objectives Track record of delivery in multi-disciplined product development projects Broad commercial understanding Capable of facilitating the resolution of issues or delays Superb communication and interpersonal skills, interfacing and presenting effectively at all levels Ability to work to deadlines, delivering plans on time whilst also responding to ad-hoc opportunities Experience of international business environments
